1 December 2015 Meeting - Approved on 1/5/15

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:08 p.m.

 

American Pledge Acacia and 4-H Pledge - Brady

 

The minutes to last month’s meeting were posted on the website. Everyone should have received an email on how to access them. Will Christian and Richard give us a quick summary?

 

Call for a motion to approve November Minutes

Isaiah - Treasurer’s Report  - $907.67

Topic Presentation – Rhiannon gave the presentation about the pyramids and ancient Egyptian life.

 

Rhiannon shared that she won a saddle in a gymkhana series

Jay won a competition with his guinea pig.

 

Cloverbuds were dismissed at 6:15 to make Christmas cards for veterans.

 

Activity – Adam led the straw relay activity

 

Old Business - Allisun

  • Have been ordered.

  • Fundraisers

We established a committee last month.Those members on that committee will be getting together and discussing options.

  • Oro Valley Parade

  • Will be on December 12 at 9:30 a.m. 

  • All members NOT buying a pig that day or tagging in will be expected to attend.

  • Committee will be meeting immediately after the meeting tonight.

  • New Business

  • BBQ Challenge is at Steam Pump Ranch, 11:30 – 9pm

  • Different teams smoke meat.  It’s a fundraiser of the Firefighters Union to help foster children at the holiday season.

  • Is same day as Oro Valley Parade.  Organizers need help selling tickets. Doesn’t have to be all day. Just offer as much help for as long as you can.  Note that there will be alcoholic beverages distributed at this event. Members will NOT be selling those beverages of course.  Would we want to bring roping dummies and give kids something to do?  Any volunteers? (list names below)

  • Membership

Last day to sign up online is today. Ms. Brenda needs to submit membership roster to extension office tomorrow.

  • Community Service – Toys for Kids

A sign up sheet is being passed around for those interested in helping.Ms. Lindsey will be contacting folks for availability so please add your phone number.We will also need a handful of kids to volunteer to buy toys.

All the toys are being distributed on the 16th, so everything must be purchased and sorted in the next week or so.

 

  • Project reports

  • Gardening – Ms. Jenn

    • Ms. Jenn distributed large pots for growing colossal cabbages.  They’ll be planting this coming week.

    • They’ll be judged at the fair.

    • They planted broccoli and cauliflower as well.

 

  • Horse – Ms. Brenda

    • Adam is reserve champion and second place in ranch sorting at State

    • Winter points and Gymkhana are coming up

    • Ranch sorting practices throughout January

    • Roping – still waiting on leaders; will be out in Marana

    • Packers will be in Western and English shows

    • Rhiannon won a saddle.

 

  • Dog – Ms. Megan

    • Working on all areas – showmanship, obedience, etc.

    • Haley participates in Pusch Ridge Riders

    • New member interested and will connect with Haley

 

  • Shooting Sports

    • Need to make sure everyone is dual- enrolled with Northwest Riders.

    • Should be able to go online at add the club, but if you have any trouble then…

    • May need to call Sara at the extension office in order to add a club project.

 

  • Sheep/swine/Rabbit/goat– Ms. Makayla/Mr. Anthony

    • Makayla needs signed contracts tonight in order to show at fair.

    • Lamb is this weekend and next weekend.

      • Bring lambs to the December 19th meeting – 2:30 pm at Amphi land lab

      • Bring AZ Bred and Fed paperwork to tag-in

    • Rabbits will not meet in December

      • Ownership papers due Jan 5th

    • Swine

      • Sale on December 12th  - be there at 9:30, sale starts at 10am

      • Put 4 pigs in a pen; bid on the pigs in the pen

      • Address: Makayla will send the address

      • Have a pig meeting on December 19th at 3pm at Amphi; don’t bring pigs.

      • Pig tag-in is January 3rd and 9th , 10am – 12pm (will also count as a meeting for January

      • Bring AZ Bred and Fed paperwork to tag-in

      • QA dates on the 3rd and the 29th of December.

      • February 6th - 7th is the AZ Classic Show in Casa Grande for Market. (swine and lamb)

        • If no one is going, then we’ll have a meeting on the 6th

      • SAILA Show is Feb 20-21st , at the UA  for Market (swine and lamb)

      • Yuma SAILA January 23rd (Sheep only)

 

  • Dairy – Mr. Skip

    • Three kids

    • Working on paperwork to make sure that nothing is rejected.

    • Sonya (project leader) has not been available; canceled the clinic

    • Will bring four animals to the fair and may return with six, based on due dates.

    • If anyone is interested, Skip will help you get a calf.

 

  • Cavy – Ms. Sarah

    • Show this weekend

    • Next show in March

    • Certification class (Quality Assurance) that kids need to take if they want to sell an animal at the fair.

    • Ownership deadline is Jan 5th
