Meeting – August 4, 2015

Meeting called to order by: Alli at 6:00pm

Activity:

Adam led the game in which everyone introduced themselves, told what project they were interested in and came up with two true statements and one lie.  Everyone guessed which was the lie.

 

Community Service:

Last year

  • Toy purchasing and sorting of toys for the holidays for Golder Ranch Fire

  • Holiday wreaths

 

Ideas so far for this year:

  • Barbecue

  • Items for Women’s shelter

  • We can do the holiday wreaths again this year if we want.

 

What other ideas do people have?

  • Gardening project - We could sell our goods at the farmers market and donate the money to the women’s shelter.

  • Paint bells for Ben’s Bells

  • Food can drive

  • Make goat’s milk soap

  • Worked at the Foundation cleaning stalls, helping with horses and riders

  • Coupon books

  • Car washes

  • Volunteer at food bank

  • Bought gifts for a family at the holidays

 

T-shirt design

  • Might want to consider a t-shirt redesign

  • Ali took a graphic design course this summer

  • What should we include?

    • Animals in current project

    • Black is too hot

  • Voted in favor of a t-shirt redesign

  • Need to form a committee

    • Who would like to be on the committee?

    • The committee will exchange info, come up with a plan and report back to the group

Project Reports

 

Horse (Brenda):

  • This year we’ve had a donation of English tack (saddle pads, jeans, shirts, reins).  We can lend them out or put them in a tack sale

  • Can use an arena in the Catalina area with lighting for riding in the evening.

  • Winter points show will be in December or January

  • There will be roping, sorting, goat tying etc.  Can rope without a horse (adults can do it too.)

 

Gardening (Jen):

  • Have a spot in her backyard.  Can do some other areas as well

  • Wyatt also has space at his house.

  • Started to make a list of what we can plant starting in September.

  • Purple and white cauliflower, carrots (different colors), kale, radishes, beets, kohlrabi, jalapenos, serranos, Anaheim chile, artichoke, peppers,  cabbage.

  • Have three sponsors.

  • We can get seeds

 

Cavy (Sarah):

  • Had two kids show last year.  They went to Casa Grande and won ribbons.  They went to fair.

  • Don’t have much information, but will have more info at the next meeting

 

Dog (Megan)

  • Traditionally gotten together about once per week for about 45 minutes or so to practice different skills

  • Combined Pusch Ridge Riders, since we don’t have a dog leader in our group.

  • Hayley got 1st place at the fair and was able to show in Round Robin.

 

Market Sheep, Goat and Swine (Makayla and Anthony)

  • We went from 2 kids two years ago about 10 last year.  Group is even bigger this year.

  • Working on a packet for the Market kids with simple rules to follow when showing .  This will include a behavioral contract for members and parents.

  • Need to have your goat or sheep soon

  • Pigs will be in December

  • We won herdsmanship last year because kids were really dedicated to working hard at the fair, cleaning stalls, working together as a team.

 

Rabbit (Brenda)

  • Have a few kids interested.

 

What other projects are people interested?

  • Many options including photography, shooting sports, cooking, other?

  • If we don’t have a leader we can combine with Pusch Ridge when needed.

  • Our group is interested in:

    • Dairy – We have some new members who are currently doing dairy and a possible leader

    • First meeting for shooting is at Ironwood Elementary

 

Announcements/News:

Rhiannon got her first 17 on barrels.

 

Meeting Completed:

Isaiah motioned for the meeting to adjourn.

Adam seconded it.

Meeting was adjourned and snacks shared at 7:02pm.
