5 January 2016 Meeting Notes - Approved

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Allie at 6:16 pm

 

American Pledge led by Acacia and 4H Pledge led by Kayla

 

Treasurer’s Report – Isaiah did not have a current report tonight

We all signed a card to thank Home Depot to thank them for their donation of decorations for the float.

 

Presentations – Emmalee presented about her dairy project

 

Cloverbuds dismissed

 

Brady led the electricity activity. We discussed that people weren’t sure what to do at first, but having communication helped. The group worked it out and collaborated to figure out how to play.

 

Old Business

  • Parade – Several Cloverbuds, Cavy, Sheep, Rabbit and Dairy members attended. Some who attended shared how it went.

  • Community Service - Toys for kids – several club members shopped for the Toys for Kids project that Golder Ranch Fire sponsors. Golder Ranch gets a donation from the Players Club for Toys for kids.

  • Cloverbuds made Christmas cards for folks that are in nursing homes and assisted living centers. They delivered them at lunchtime on December 23rd to folks at the Fairwinds Desert Point facility on Oracle and La Reserve.Adam and Rhiannon helped too. Rhiannon brought her violin and played songs by the fireplace while Cloverbuds visited with the residents. Some residents shared that they participated and volunteered with 4-H in their hometowns.Residents seemed to really enjoy the visit and thanked the 4-H club members for visiting.

  • T-shirts – Carly received them. Will distribute in February

  • Fundraisers – None yet. To be determined

 

New Business

Pima County Fair

  • Time to start thinking about fair….Only 99 days, 16 hours away! - April 14-24

  • Time to start thinking reserving RVs, travel trailers, etc. Information should be out by February meeting, March meeting at latest

  • Need to start thinking about buyer letters, making a website, PROJECT BOOKS!

  • Each project will have to put together a display board based off of the theme for the fair. More on the theme at the next meeting.

Cavy – Ms. Sarah

  • No updates

 

Dairy – Mr. Dotson

  • Need to have paperwork in by the 15th; All current participants are aware of this.

 

Gardening – Ms. Chavez (in for Ms. Jenn)

  • Gardens are all doing great.

  • Cauliflowers are getting big.Having problems with rodents eating some of them.

  • Brocolli is a little slower.

  • Going to Botanical Gardens on Monday, January 18th.

 

Horse – Ms. Brenda

  • This Saturday the 9th is the Ranch Horse WPS at Brandi Fenton. Starts at 8:00. Be sure to bring food and drinks since there will not be a food vendor. The order of classes is: Obstacle Trail, Ranch Riding, Reining. Order of go is Sr. Advanced, Sr. Intermediate, Junior, Sr. Beginner, Jr. Beginner.

  • The Roping and Sorting WPS paperwork is on the forms page of the main 4H website. Postmark deadline is. Sorting qualifying deadline is, the 10th at the sorting practice and roping is the 17th at the roping/gymkhana mini-series. Info regarding both is on the website.

  • Gymkhana and Roping WPS will start atat Marana Heritage Arena. Sunset Riders 4-H club will have a food booth as a buckle fundraiser.

  • Sorting WPS isat Phil Nichols’ place. For info please see website.

  • If any member is acquiring or leasing a new horse for Fair the deadline for that isand a new horse registration must be submitted to Sue by.

  • Mastership testing will be offered atbefore theHAB meeting. Please contact Cindy Jones to schedule:cindyariz@gmail.com    This is the last time she will be testing before a meeting for this year. It will be offered at both Horse Handlings on Feb 6 and March 6. It's not too early to send in your RSVP's for the Feb date. Please see website.

  • IMPORTANT REMINDER: If a member will be showing at Fair they must complete a Record Book and submit it at the March 7 HAB meeting. Club Leaders, please arrange to gather those and have them delivered that evening.

  • Horse Camp Committee Chairperson: Kelly Cook is stepping down as the Chair but is willing to assist a new person with this position for the upcoming year. Camp is normally held the last full week of June so it is time to start planning that and getting entry forms out ASAP. The person needs to be a certified volunteer. PLEASE, Camp won't happen unless this position is filled!! We need your help.

 

Dog (project is in Pusch Ridge Riders) – Hayley Davidson is in project. Do you have a report on how you are doing and any important dates coming up?

  • Are practicing all skills, but haven’t done much since the last meeting due to the holidays.

 

Swine, Goat, Sheep, Rabbit - Ms. Makayla and Anthony

  • Get calendars from Makayla.

  • Rabbit paperwork should be turned in by today. Meeting on January 24th at Makayla’s house at 12 pm.

  • Pig

    • Meeting is Sunday, January 10th at 1:30 or 2pm to weigh in; make sure to shear if not done already. 

  • Pygmy Goat

    • Makayla will talk to participants at end.
