Officers introduced themselves. Isaiah called meeting to order

 

Treasurer’s report – 118.63

 

No minutes read from last meeting (May 2017).

 

Kylie – activity leader –

Played game of connect.  Introduce yourself and can talk about anything you want. When someone makes a connection with what you are saying, then that person yells connect and they threw a ball of string. Object was to show how everyone is connected in some way.

 

Membership signups – go to 4h online and re-register as it has all re-set.  Leaders need to as well

Bylaws- officers created some new bylaws – each person in attendance given a copy.  Isaiah pointed out some of the differences.  Read through them and make sure you understand it.  Bring back signed next month.  Vote on them next month. If you have any questions or issues – call a leader or officer.

 

Project reports –

Horse – Ms. Brenda

Practice dates to be announced. We will mainly be working on sorting, gymkhana and roping.  Sorting practices will be held soon – September 24th and 30th; October 8 and 22nd.  State show is November 3-5 in Queen Creek at horse shoe park.

 

Cavy -  Ms. Sarah

Fur and feather in November.

 

Rabbit- Ms. Makayla

Rabbit  Meeting - September 16th at Makayla’s house. 5 p.m.

 

Will co-lead rabbit with Ms. Heather – Makayla will concentrate on showmanship.

 

Swine lamb and market goat – Ms. Makayla

Those interested let her know you are interested.

Will need to sign market contracts

 

Quality care for animals that are sold in the auction and dairy projects- only extension officers can conduct the training.  Any kids that have q/a certified until December 2018 you are good.  If yours is up this year, then you will need to re-certify.  It’s about an hour class in person. Once you are certified, you go online and finish. December 2018 – every member has to have quality care in person regardless if your certification ends after that.

 

Ron Garigan is scheduling club appointments – not an auction

If you are showing lamb, you should already have it. Same with goat.

 

Dairy – Mr. Skip

Gila – baby due this evening

 

Shooting sports/archery – Dave Wood.

Announced new instructor – Tom Decker will be doing small bore. Members have the choice to do both projects.  First county meeting tomorrow night. Shooting sport meeting 24th – 8a.m. Meet at Naranja range.  Dave to send email out.  Meet with them after this meeting to get an updated roster for everyone interested.  Small bore 22 rifle – need ear and eye protection. May have other members from other clubs to join in on archery/rifle.


 

Community service projects  - sign up sheet was passed around

Tractor supply does 4h clover donations – October 4 -15.  Can we bring animals? Maybe collect donations.

 

Farmers market at Tractor Supply– October 7th 8-2   Bring animals.  

Tractor supply is open to us setting up tables on other weekends. We just need to let them know a time.

 

Trick or treat so others can eat on October 23rd. –  The club that collects most food will get a cash prize.  

 

Jim Click Raffle Tickets for a car – Makayla has 15 – $15.00 from each ticket goes to club. $25.00 / ticket or 5 for $100.00.  $10.00 goes to Pima county round robin buckles. All tickets needs to be sold by end of November. Doesn’t count toward two fundraisers.  See Makayla for tickets.

 

Fundraiser – National Junior Master Gardener – Isaiah announced the National Junior Master Gardener 4-h Program has partnered with the WW1 Memorial Commission on a national service project for 4h youth to be involved with building the WW1 memorial.  Groups can start now, but the big push is between September 5 and October 20th.  Sell poppy seed packets for a minimum of $2.00 each.  Representatives from 4 winning groups will be invited to experience an expense paid trip to the groundbreaking of the Memorial in Washington DC in November.  For more information go to website. Project leaders – Submit a calendar with their best guess for at least a month in advance.  Rylan will put on website.

 

Catalina Mountaineers has a website and social media page. Everyone should be looking on these websites for important dates and information.

 

Open Discussion –

Pima county summer camp – June 30th –July 3rd.  County will sponsor 15 kids.  (Cost is bout $700/person)  Need to get apps in if you are interested. If you want to be a camp leader, have to be aged out – and get certified for cpr, etc.

 

Fair theme for 2018 fair - A day at the beach.  

New families welcome night is October 27th at the campus ag center.

New this year is a solar clovers project! Only 75 kids total, moving gadget, race car and solar water fountain permanent display.

 

Makayla – Mericorp 17 and older – extension office is offering October –June -10 hours a week – give you a living a stipend – (hourly wage). You will get $1500 towards books or tuition toward college -  go to U of A extension office to sign up.

 

October 14th 9 a.m. – Small stock and large stock quiz bowl.   Would be good for anyone that does or does not have an animal.  Covered arena.  Looking for sponsors.

 

County is offering workshops to anyone – self determination, motivation, bullying workshops. If you have ideas for workshops, let Josh know. Dinner may be served.

 

Calendars were distributed.
